Improvements are continually being made to QuickBooks Online (QBO). Since feature additions don’t need to be wrapped up and sold in a package to users, the software can be upgraded at any time.
Recently, a few improvements were added that enhanced some of the inventory capabilities of QBO. This is an area we hope will continue to receive program updates.
There is now a field to add a SKU to each product.
You can see in the above screenshot that the field for the SKU appears in the list of products and services. To actually enter a value in this field, edit an existing item.
The left hand arrow in the graphic shows the field to enter the SKU while either entering a new item or editing an existing one.
The right hand arrow highlights another new feature in QBO. The ability to attach pictures to items.
To attach a picture to this item, click on the Upload button.
Once the Upload button is selected, QBO opens a window allowing you to navigate to the location on your computer where the graphic file for this item is saved.
Select the image file and QBO pulls it into the item file.
You can see from the above graphic that the picture also shows in the products and services list. The item with the picture is the first row in the list.
The Z-210 Pump is shown as the first item in the list because QBO will sort the list by the column you select. In this case, the Type column was selected to show all the Items before all the Services.
The left hand arrow in the graphic points to the Filter button. It is possible to filter this list to see only active or inactive items. One can filter to view only items, or only services.
The arrow at the right of the screenshot points to the gear icon, allowing different settings for this list. Clicking the icon allows you to select which columns you want to show. It also holds a setting converting the list to “Compact” mode which shows more products and services on the screen.
One of the enhancements recently implemented is the ability to duplicate a product or service. In this right most column is a down arrow next to the Edit designation. This opens a small dropdown. One of the options on that dropdown is to duplicate the item.
