If you are using QuickBooks Online (QBO), but you miss the way you used to be able to do certain things in QuickBooks Desktop, this may be the answer for you.
Intuit has developed a new app for Windows that will run your QBO software. Let’s look at how we can download, install, and use this latest addition to the App Center.
From your QBO account, select the App Center from the Navigation Bar.
You may have to do some scrolling through the existing offerings, but you will find the familiar QuickBooks logo and the Windows app.
When you click on the QuickBooks logo, a new window opens giving you information about the app. There is also a large blue button labeled, Learn More. Click that button.
This will open an additional window with a prominent button to download. Download and then run the program to install the app.
This process puts an icon on your Windows desktop that launches the app. You click on that icon just as you would to start any other Windows program. You must enter your credentials for your QBO subscription.
Once your User ID and password are entered, select Sign In and the app will open your QBO account. If you are a professional with multiple QBO clients, you will be presented with a list of those and be able to select the one you wish to open.
At this point, QBO opens in a window as though it were a Windows program on your PC.
Notice the familiar dropdown menus across the top. It would take an extremely long post to go through each one. Better you should download this free app and try it out for yourself.
Most, if not all, of the commands available in QBO are now available on the dropdown menus. Most have keyboard shortcuts.
Just like with QuickBooks Desktop, accessing new functions from the menus opens additional windows. I don’t leave my work when I navigate to another area of the program to answer a question, or find some new piece of data.
This app was released on September 1, so it is brand new. It is a free download and works on Windows 7, 8, or 10.
