Despite the title, there really isn’t a new vendor center in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Not in the standard version you work with everyday at least.
But there is a new vendor center design that you can try out. If you like it, you can offer feedback to the engineers that designed it. If enough people like it, perhaps it will become standard in QBO.
Here’s how to try it out.
From the Settings menu (gear icon), select QuickBooks Labs. A window opens listing several new features for QBO that users can test. Find “Directory View for Vendors.” To the right, find the button that reads Off and click on it to select On.
Click Done and return to your normal QBO screen. Refresh. Select the Vendor list, then choose one vendor
See the little symbol circled in the upper left? Click that and your vendor list will open up to appear as the screenshot above. Now, the details for the vendor you selected from your list are shown, but so is the complete list of vendors along the left side.
There are several nice tools here.
There are three areas in the above graphic we want to consider. The arrow marked “1”, indicates the search box where you can enter text to quickly find the vendor you are looking for.
The area within the square at “2” shows the selections you can use to order or sort your list of vendors. Do you want them sorted by name or by open balance?
The two ovals at “3” highlight the two tabs available in the vendor list. The transaction tab (as shown) lists the transactions for this vendor. You can sort and/or filter this list.
Clicking on the other tab will reveal the vendor details. Edit right from the window and your changes can be saved.
Try the new vendor center and if you like it, let QBO know. It may be in the next batch of program improvements.
