There are too many new features for one post, so we will cover the new QuickBooks Enterprise in two parts. One today and one on Thursday.
While the Pro and Premier versions of QuickBooks will be with us for a long time to come, QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Enterprise seem to be the focus of Intuit’s plan for the future. So, what’s new in Enterprise?
Several new additions to QuickBooks Enterprise 15 are feature enhancements that have been requested by users for some time. In this post, we will do a quick overview of the most popular.
In the past, a Subtotal type item in QuickBooks totaled the amount column, but not quantity. As a reaction to requests to include the quantity as well, QuickBooks has added this capability this year.
Not only can our subtotal item include quantity, but other columns as well if applicable. A big plus is that custom fields are included with this feature too.
Let’s assume we have a custom field for items on a custom invoice template. When an invoice is created, not only do we tell the customer how many items they will receive, but how many cases.
Our new subtotal item would do that.
There will be some limitations. If the Unit of Measure feature is used, the items on the invoice need to use compatible units of measure for this to work. A quantity of case plus a quantity of each would not make a meaningful addition to the subtotal line.
Custom fields must be a numeric type of data in order to be available as a column to total.
Another improvement is the ability to sort columns on forms. Any of the columns on the form can be sorted.
Simply click on the column header to sort the column.
This works on many transactions in QuickBooks Enterprise 15 including checks. Note however that it’s items that will sort. It doesn’t appear that this will work if the account tab is used.
For those with long complex invoices, this feature will help. It is now possible to search the lines
Sales transactions, purchase orders, bills, and item receipts all have this capability now. The Search command is a new tab on the ribbon.
QuickBooks has added several capabilities to the way forms print as well. Thursday, our post will give an overview of those and the remaining features that seem to be the ones that will be the most important to users.
